During our recent stay in Campbellford, Ontario, we stumbled upon a hidden gem. Nstled amidst rolling hills of farmers fields sits Wingfield Inn & Gardens, a quaint country home-turned-inn just waiting for you to visit.

Filled with unexpected charm and class in every room of the property’s three homes, Wingfield Inn & Gardens will surprise you and delight you in so many ways, and you’ll quickly see why this Eastern Ontario vacation home is totally worth writing about.

Before we continue, it’s important to note that Wingfield Inn markets itself as a vacation home property for large grounds: be it weddings, reunions, or other large groups of up to 30 guests. Booking the entire property out to one party makes everyone’s stay the easiest and most enjoyable. If that sounds like it’s up your alley, keep reading – this is for you.

As you pull up to Wingfield Inn & Gardens, you might wonder whether you’ve signed up for a farm stay. The property is surrounded by a couple of barns and lots of farmers’ fields. There are even cows across the road!

While you will be treated to the quiet stillness of the countryside, what lies inside each home is far from what you might expect in a typical farmhouse. (Take it from me, a farm girl through and through!)

There are three vacation homes, each renovated and filled with charming, modern yet rustic decor. The original, historic Stonehouse sleeps twelve, the chalet sleeps another twelve, and the boho cottage sleeps five.

Before we dive into each one, it’s worth mentioning that each home – and in fact the whole property – is furnished to foster that sense of togetherness with your fellow guests. There are large dining rooms for sharing meals, and the living rooms are filled with games and lounging furniture.

There’s also a fire pit outside, a swimming pool, tennis courts, games rooms and more, giving you lots of ways to relax both indoors and outdoors in each season.

The Historic Stonehouse

With four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, this charming and beautifully furnished home is the centrepiece of the property. The tall ceilings, wide windows, beautiful wooden staircase and cozy living room perfectly compliment the modern yet rustic character of each room.

Forget staying in a hotel with the same artwork in every room. Here, you will have unique antiques or modern touches in every single room, giving you that country-vibe and city luxury at the same time.

The dining room in the Stonehouse is also a work of art in and of itself! The antique wooden furniture is simply stunning. There’s also a beautiful stone patio outside with tables and chairs for you to enjoy eating outdoors.

The Chalet

Filled with five uniquely decored bedrooms and two baths, as well as a stunning dining room/living room and spacious outdoor deck, the Chalet home is probably my favourite on the property.

The wide bay windows bring in so much light to the already gorgeous dining room. You will love hanging out in this home, as its vibe is cozy, classy and welcoming.

The Boho Cottage

This is the home that we stayed in during our overnight stay at Wingfield Inn & Gardens. While the outside of the home isn’t quite as eye-catching as the Stonehouse, the inside is completely charming.

We were instantly shocked with how uniquely and skillfully furnished every room of the house was. From the retro gold couch to the sheepskin rug in the single bedroom, to the large modern art in the common room, all of the pieces went together so perfectly.

Our bed was comfortable and the extra space of the living room and kitchen was a welcomed luxury compared to hotel rooms, especially when traveling with our early-riser baby!

The Gardens

A big part of the vision of the owner, Julian, is to create a captivating garden property that surrounds each home. As a landscaper himself, Julian is putting a lot of work into the care of the property to make it filled with flowering gardens in the spring and summer months.

If you’re looking for a great outdoor wedding venue in the Campbellford area, Wingfield should definitely be on your radar, because it would be stunning in full bloom.

We visited in the early spring, so missed the blooming season, but have seen pictures of the property in full colour.

The Food

Wingfield Inn & Gardens is like a smaller version of some of Ontario’s all-inclusive resorts. When you book your stay here, you can both cook for yourself (with full kitchens and BBQs) or you can order meals made right on-site by a highly skilled chef.

The owners are committed to healthy, organic produce and whole foods, and even grow a lot of their produce right on the property.

When you book, you can choose what level of meal service you’d like to have.

Hospitable Service

The moment we arrived on the Wingfield Inn property, we were greeted by Julian’s uncle, who instantly made us feel welcomed. He helped carry our bags and welcomed us into our cozy house, and was available by text at any point during our stay.

The next morning we had a long conversation with Julian’s uncle, who showed us around the property and gave us some tips for what to explore in Campbellford.

The level of service and hospitality here on someone’s private property was truly a highlight and a real marked difference from the type of experience you could expect at a hotel.
